How it works

  1. Create a hunt

Choose your game, target Pokémon and hunt method. Encounty knows the correct odds.

  2. Capture your game

Select the game window or screen. Mark the encounter with a template, once.

  3. Hunt

Encounters are detected and counted automatically while you play. Until it sparkles.

See it in action

From creating a detection template to the first automatically counted encounter in under a minute: snapshot your game, mark the encounter text, test the match, hunt.

Why Encounty?

A classic tally counter app only stores a number. Encounty watches your game and counts for you. Here is what that difference looks like.

FAQ

Was Encounty built with the help of AI?

Yes. Encounty is developed with the help of LLM coding assistants. A free application of this scope would simply not be possible as a solo project without them. Every change is reviewed, covered by automated tests and CI, and the complete source code is open on GitHub.

Is Encounty really free?

Yes, completely. No ads, no pro tier, no paywall. Encounty is a hobby project, free under the AGPL-3.0 license.

Do I need an account or an internet connection?

No. Encounty runs entirely on your machine and works offline. Internet is only used for optional things like app updates and sprite downloads. Your hunts stay local.

Can using Encounty get me banned?

Encounty only watches: it reads your screen or capture card, never touches the game, sends no inputs and automates nothing. It is a smarter tally counter, not a cheat tool.

Which games and setups work?

Anything you can show on your screen: PC releases or a console through a capture card. Hunt tracking covers every mainline game from Gen 1 to 9, and auto-detection works wherever an encounter is visually recognizable.

Where does the odds data come from?

The odds and method data come from a community research thread on r/pokemon that documents the hunting methods of every game, cross-checked against Bulbapedia, Smogon and RotomLabs. The app credits every source under Settings, About. Read the research thread. Bulbapedia, Smogon, RotomLabs, PokéWiki.

Does detection work in 3D games too?

Yes. Before every release, detection has to pass automated tests against real gameplay recordings from 2D and 3D games, with strict criteria: exact encounter counts, no double counting. See how detection is tested.

How much performance does the detection cost?

Very little. Matching runs as WebGPU compute shaders on your GPU with adaptive polling, so the CPU stays free for your game. Systems without WebGPU fall back to a CPU pipeline automatically. An integrated GPU is enough.
